These are blunt needles with large eyes, perfect for weaving yarn tails back into the work when you’ve finished a crochet or knitting project. They’re metal, so they won’t snap easily, as can happen with the plastic ones. The eyes are quite wide, suitable for lace-weight, fingering-weight, and baby-weight yarn. You might be able to fit sport-weight yarn through the eye, provided it’s not too fuzzy or nubby, but I wouldn’t count on it. (They make bigger needles for thicker yarn.)

Just a note, some yarns will tend to fall out of the eye more easily with these needles, because the metal is slick and the eyes are very smooth. With plastic yarn needles, the eyes are squared off, so they have edges that “catch” the yarn, keeping it in place. These don’t do that, which means very smooth, narrow yarns tend to fall out. It’s frustrating, but not a deal-breaker. You just have to pay attention to where the end of the yarn is after every stitch, so when it gets close to falling out, you can pull it back through.

You get five identical yarn needles in this set, which is good if you tend to lose small items, or if you like to keep duplicates in different places. I keep my crochet hooks and yarn needles in a plastic case, so I don’t really need five needles, but I figure they’ll be good to have, in case I lose any while traveling.

Four stars for these yarn needles. They’re good quality and work quite well. In spite of the difficulty with keeping them threaded, I actually like them better than the plastic kind. They’re easier to work with and they’re shorter, so you don’t have as much trouble weaving them through your crochet work. Recommended for anyone who needs blunt, wide-eye needles for crocheting, knitting, or anything else.

Easy to thread even with worsted and chunky yarns. I even use them for finishing socks with the Kitchener Stitch. They are very smooth and slim enough glide through yarn without sticking like plastic needles often do, plus the eye is much larger.
